Previously, we have worked in the village of Hasnapur near Hyderabad under the pillar of renewable energy. This project called Liter of Light consisted of eco-friendly, plastic 1.5 liter bottles that reflected light from outside and distributed it inside the house thereby giving them more hours of electricity at low costs. Another project we worked on was with the village of Elandaikudum in Tamil Nadu under the pillar of water sanitation. In this village, after completing the first step in our three step methodology, we had gone ahead and partnered with a social enterprise to commence the building of toilets to prevent the problem of open defecation in the village. Due to political turmoil in the village and nearby regions, PRISHI needed to step back from the village and could no longer continue the project there. Currently we are back at step 1, observations and are looking into villages near Surat. After determining the decrease in literacy rates, especially those of women in the villages nearby, we have settled on working under the education pillar for the upcoming project.
